Pinterest is one of the best platforms to use for sharing your content. Because it is a visual search engine, therefore it is essential to create eye-catching pins that will grab the attention of viewers and drive traffic to your website or your other platforms. A pin’s title and description also play a crucial role in getting your pins discovered and clicked. In this post, we will discuss how to create eye-catching pins and write pin titles and descriptions with relevant keywords. In addition, we will touch on some helpful tools to use in creating your pins.
1. Use high-quality images
Because Pinterest is a visual platform, and pins with high-quality images tend to perform better than those with poor quality images. Use high-quality images that are well-lit, in focus, and have a clear subject. The image should also be relevant to the content you are promoting.
2. Make use of text overlays
While images are essential, text overlays can make your pins really stand out even more. Adding text to your pins can help communicate the value of your content and entice users to click through to your website. Be sure to use easy-to-read fonts and ensure that the text is legible against the image’s background. Stay away from some script fonts that are often small and hard to read.
3. Use bright and bold colors
Pinterest is a platform filled with color, so by using bright and bold colors, you can help your pins to stand out more. Use colors that are on brand and complement your image. Be careful not to use too many colors that can make your pin look cluttered. Do a quick search of the topic you will be pinning about and those keywords. Look to see how those pins are designed, (did they use text overlay, bright colors and bold font?). Also check the performance of those pins. That will give you a good idea of what you need to be aiming for.
4. Create multiple pin designs
Creating multiple pin designs for the same piece of content can help you reach a broader audience. Different designs can resonate with different users, making it important to experiment with various pin designs to find what works best. You can also batch-create your content or pins. I’ll have another post that talks in further detail about how I batch-create my content. But with regard to batch-creating pins, here’s what I like to do.
- Pick 3- 5 topics that you will be pinning about.
- Create 3 different pin styles/designs for each topic. For example, if you have 4 topics, then you should have 12 pins. You can use the same description on each topic to keep things easy. (topic one, all three pin designs will have the same description, maybe change the title up a little bit)
5. Optimize your pin titles
Your pin title should be clear and communicate what your content is about. Make sure it’s relevant to the content you are promoting and includes relevant keywords that users are searching for. Head over to this blog post, which talks about how to find relevant keywords for your topics and niche. Avoid using clickbait titles that can lead to a high bounce rate. Back up what your title is by being honest and delivering what you’re promising.
6. Write detailed pin descriptions
Your pin description should provide more information about the content you are promoting. It should be detailed and include relevant keywords that users are searching for. Use clear language and make sure your pin description aligns with your pin’s image and title. Pin descriptions have a character max limit of 500. Utilize that space by giving as much information as possible to draw the viewer in.
7. Use relevant keywords
Relevant keywords play a crucial role in getting your pins discovered. Use keywords that are relevant to your content and include them in your pin title and description. I typically try to aim for 4-5 keywords throughout the description. Long tail keywords are best. You can read this blog post that talks about why you should be utilizing Pinterest in your business and this post that talks about how to find relevant keywords.
8. Use Rich Pins
Rich Pins provide more context about your content, making it easier for users to discover and engage with your pins. There are different types of Rich Pins, including articles, Recipes, and Product Pins. Enabling Rich Pins on your website can help improve your Pinterest SEO and drive more traffic to your website.
In conclusion, creating eye-catching pins and writing pin titles and descriptions with relevant keywords are essential to get your content discovered on Pinterest. Use high-quality images, text overlays, and bright and bold colors, and experiment with multiple pin designs to find what works best. Make sure to optimize your pin titles and write detailed pin descriptions that include relevant keywords and hashtags. Finally, enabling Rich Pins can help improve your Pinterest SEO and drive more traffic to your website. By following these tips, you can create eye-catching pins that stand out and drive traffic to your website.
Canva
Here are some tips for using Canva to design your pins:
Canva is an excellent tool for designing eye-catching pins. It is a graphic design platform that allows you to create stunning graphics for various social media platforms, including Pinterest. Canva offers a range of templates and design elements that make it easy to create pins that stand out. The best part is that Canva has a free version that has tons of capabilities! If you are creating a lot of designs and want more even more tools, I would recommend investing in one of their plans because it’s not too expensive and will really take your creations to the next level. (not sponsored or affiliated, I just love Canva!)
1. Choose the right template
Canva offers a wide range of Pinterest templates that are pre-designed with the optimal size and dimensions for Pinterest. Choose a template that aligns with your brand and content, and make sure it’s optimized for Pinterest.
2. Customize your design
Customize your design to make it unique and on-brand. Canva offers a range of design elements, including text, shapes, icons, and images that you can use to customize your pins. Use colors that align with your brand, and make sure the design elements you choose complement your image. This is perfect for everyone, including the not-so-creative ones, (me), because the design is done for you! All you need to do is add your brand colors and fonts and add your wording. It makes creating graphics so much easier and faster.
3. Use Canva’s built-in image editor
Canva’s built-in image editor allows you to edit your images, making it easy to create pins with high-quality images. You can adjust the brightness, contrast, and saturation of your images and use filters to give your images a unique look. Plus, Canva just released all-new editing tools, making it your go-to place for picture and graphics editing!
4. Use Canva’s text editor
Canva’s text editor allows you to add text to your pins and customize the font, color, size, and alignment of your text. Make sure the text is legible and easy to read against the image’s background. Use the Easy button branding with the paid version of Canva to make the process of adding your brand fonts even faster.
5. Save your design
Once you’ve created your pin, save it as a PNG or JPEG file. PNG files are of higher quality and allow for transparent backgrounds, making them ideal for Pinterest. Make sure to save your pin with a relevant and descriptive file name to help with organization. If you’re going to be creating a ton of images on a variety of topics, I would recommend getting your Canva organized by utilizing their folders. Have a different topic for each folder, making it easier to find and grab whenever you need them. This is also another great feature of their paid version… I should be a Canva rep. LOL
