Waves.

🌊

One of my favorite quotes:

“𝑰 𝒉𝒂𝒗𝒆 𝒍𝒆𝒂𝒓𝒏𝒆𝒅 𝒕𝒐 𝒌𝒊𝒔𝒔 𝒕𝒉𝒆 𝒘𝒂𝒗𝒆𝒔 𝒕𝒉𝒂𝒕 𝒕𝒉𝒓𝒐𝒘 𝒎𝒆 𝒖𝒑 𝒂𝒈𝒂𝒊𝒏𝒔𝒕 𝒕𝒉𝒆 𝑹𝒐𝒄𝒌 𝒐𝒇 𝑨𝒈𝒆𝒔.”

~ Charles Spurgeon

I have always been drawn to the majestic wildness of the ocean. It’s unbridled, mysterious, beauty. Sometimes it’s calm and silent, still and peaceful. Like staring at a beautiful picture. Sometimes it’s tumultuous and angry, showing her full force of power and strength. Oddly enough, I’m drawn to the latter. The power of the waves as they crash against rocks. The way they crash against the shores, pushing and pulling the sands beneath them.

Much of my life has felt those angry waves. Tossing me this way and that way. Feeling the rawness of pain and trials like sea water slapping your face. Feeling the sting of sea water as it hits your eyes. The feeling of the sand under your feet as it melts away from the currents that lay beneath the surface leaving you without solid footing. The way you try to swim against those waves but they keep pushing you against that rock, over and over again. Leaving you exhausted, battered and needing rest.

But as He changes my heart, as He guides me through every step, every trial, every wave, every thing that is meant to tire me out and leave me battered and broken. I remember this quote. Every wave that crashes into me, has pushed me right into the Rock of Ages. My unfailing source of strength, my everlasting strength. My refuge, my safety, my salvation. So, now I too have 𝒍𝒆𝒂𝒓𝒏𝒆𝒅 𝒕𝒐 𝒌𝒊𝒔𝒔 𝒕𝒉𝒐𝒔𝒆 𝒘𝒂𝒗𝒆𝒔. Although those waves are wild and uninhibited in their ever changing motion. That Rock does not move. It is solid, strong, a place I can grab ahold of for safety and refuge until the seas calm again.

Although He can quiet the waves at the sound of his voice, He allows the seas to crash me right into Him. Using the exhaustion to surrender my heart. The salt of the sea to cleanse my wounds. Each and every thing He uses for purpose, purifying and refining us for His kingdom.

The next time you feel as though you are being tossed between the waves, losing your footing; learn to kiss those waves and let them throw you right into Him.

“The Lord is my rock and my fortress and my deliverer, my God, my rock, in whom I take refuge,

my shield, and the horn of my salvation, my stronghold.”

Psalm 18:2
